I remember that on my first afternoon of exploring, I stumbled upon a Magnum ice cream shop. A single Magnum cost around 18 SGD (about £10). I also recall how incredibly modern, well-kept, and clean the country was—something I hadn’t experienced before. The air was fresh and crisp, with only a slight humidity. On top of that, Singapore definitely isn’t a backpacker’s destination; it feels more like a millionaire’s playground, with exotic cars on every corner, towering high-rise buildings, and top-notch facilities.

Day 33 – August 6th
Wanting to make the most of my time in Singapore, I woke up early and headed to Orchard Road, famous for its high-end shopping malls and boutiques. Along the way, I also stumbled upon the Merlion statue. One place I was recommended to visit was the Raffles Hotel, where the original Singapore Sling cocktail was invented. Since I wasn’t dressed for the occasion—wearing a vest, flip-flops, and shorts—I made a quick stop at H&M to buy a shirt, tied a bandana around my neck, switched to some trainers, and somehow managed to get in. The cocktail set me back $35 SGD, and with some fries, the total came to $45 SGD—but it was definitely worth it.

One thing I noticed at the Raffles Hotel was the complimentary nuts. I’m not sure if it’s a local custom, but I loved how they simply throw the nut shells all over the floor.



When I returned to the hostel, I heard a loud party next door. Curious, I stumbled upon a salsa night with a live band playing— the perfect way to wind down before heading to Bali the next day.
